Olatz Ruiz

 

Olatz was born in Mendaro (Gipuzkoa-Spain) in 1997. She started playing the violin when shewas four years old. She has been a student of Keiko Wataya since 2010. Between 2013-2016 she studied in Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with professors Zakhar Bron and Yuri Volguin. She also was a chamber music student of Heime Muller and Márta Gulyás.

Between 2016-2019 she studied in Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria) with professor Klara Flieder.

​

Actually she is academist in Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam for the 19/20 season.

​

She has participated in national and international courses and festivals: the XVIIIéme Master Class organized by the Academie de Musique de Versalles, Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves, and Violin Master course de Oettingen. She also participated in the 5th International Mendelssohn Summer School Festival in Hamburg, in Sommer Akademie Mozarteum Salzburg, Festival Manuel de Falla, Festival etc.

She has received classes and masterclasses from musicians sych as Ferenc Rados, Leonidas Kavakos, Shmuel Ashkenazi, Gérard Caussé, Michaela Martin, Nicolás Chumachenco, Vadim Gludman, Imre Rhomann etc.

​

She has played under the conduction of Zubin Metha, Valery Gergiev, András Schiff, Günter Pichler, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Stefan Asbury, Antoni Ros Marbá, Henrik Nanasy, Gustavo Gimeno etc.

​

She has been a prize winner in several competitions such as Basque Young Musicians, Concourse Violines por la Paz, Certamen Nacional de Interpretación Intercentros Melómano, VIII-th Premio César Uceda, Allegro Vivo, Ciudad de Vigo and Anton Rubinstein.

​

Olatz has received for two consecutive years the Nicanor Zabaleta scholarship. She has also received the fundación Albeniz and AIE scholarships.

​

Olatz plays on a Italian violin by Francesco Maurizi, made in Appignano c. 1880.
